Special Olympics Bharat has been organizing National Games in various disciplines from the year 2002. 25 National events have been conducted in various parts of the country where more than 15,000 athletes have taken part. |

National Games 2002 |
The Longest Torch Run: 2002: The preliminary to the games was the longest Torch Run ever held in the history of Special Olympics covering over 20,000 Kilometers tying the bond between 29 cities involving about 5,00,000 people starting and finishing in New Delhi.
The Games: The rich cultural diversity and integrity of a vast nation like India was reflected in the National Games, the venues reflected that: from Pondicherry and Chennai in the south to Chandigarh and Delhi in the North and Ahmedabad in west, 2000 special athletes converged to participate in 11 sports, their faces gleaming with pride and courage showing in their effort, be it the sprint or the shot put. They emphasized the true motto of Special Olympics “Let me win, if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt”. |

National Games 2005 |
The Torch Run: The Flame of Hope was lit on 11 Apr 05 by His Excellency Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, President of India , and the endeavour was supported by the Honourable Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, Smt Sonia Gandhi, and ( late) Shri Sunil Dutt .
On July 27, 2005, the Torch was lit in Kolkata for the start of the Special Olympics Bharat National Games against the backdrop of the magnificent Victoria Memorial .From there; it covered 14 cities across India, traversing over 12,000 kilometres.
The Games : The endeavor involved 12,000 athletes, 24,000 students, volunteers, families and over 70 VIPs and celebrities. It also marked the launch of Special Olympics in Sikkim. The culmination of the Games was the Power lifting event held in February 2006 at Mangalore, Karnataka. |

National Championship 2008 – Floor Hockey |

The Torch Run: The “Flame of Hope” was lit at Seva Bharti and taken through hills of Himchal Pradesh by the athletes of participating states.
The Games: Special Olympics Bharat – National Championship was held at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh in January 2008. Sh. Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje, Governor, Himachal Pradesh declared the games open. Over 750 male and female athletes and coaches participated from 21 State programs. |

National Championship 2009 - Football and Table Tennis |
The Torch Run: The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the torch at Victoria Memorial. The Flame of Hope was lit by Shri Kanti Ganguly, Minister-in-Charge, and Sunder ban Affairs Department. Also present were Mr. P Bhattacharya, from Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Wong Chuk, Chairman, Special Olympics, Bhutan, and Air Marshal Denzil Keelor, Chairman, Special Olympics Bharat attended the Opening Ceremony. Following the lighting of the Torch over 1500 students from special and mainstream schools participated in the Torch Run upto Vijaya Smarak, Kolkatta.
The Games: The SO Bharat National Championship in Football & Table Tennis was held from 17 to 22 January 2009, at the Salt Lake Stadium, Sports Authority of India Complex, Kolkatta. Over 250 athletes from 18 states participated in the games. |

National Championship 2009 - Volleyball & Basketball |
The Games:The National Championship in Volleyball and Basketball was held at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Pondicherry. 313 athletes from 13 States competed in Volleyball. In Basketball, 354 athletes from 15 States competed in the Game. |

National Championship 2009 – Badminton |

The Torch Run: Mr. Ashutosh Anti Pondekar, District Collector, Sri Ganga nagar flaged the Torch run before the games. Air Marshal S. K. Malik, Trustee, Special Olympics Bharat received the torch.
The Games: 228 male and female athletes from 21 states participated in the 5 day event at Sri Ganganagar. |
