Mission Statement
"The mission of the Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community."

Family members of a person with intellectual disability often feel confused and alone. Getting involved with Special Olympics gives families a support network providing them acceptance, resources, hope and a chance to become advocates – making them a valued voice in our movement
How Families Connect
On a day-to-day basis, families connect by volunteering at athletic trainings, meeting in local gatherings, sharing links and information and talking online via a global network. For every family, each new accomplishment is a joyful story and a reason to celebrate
